Injury Recovery

When injured as a result of a misalignment or misuse of the body, Alexander Technique can assist individuals in both the recovery and prevention of further similar injury.

Students of the Technique are taught to become consciously aware of their physical habits that either cause or exacerbate their injuries. Once they discover and inhibit these habits they can replace them with better habits that prevent future problems.

For example, if an individual is constantly slouched forward and down and has underutilized chest and abdominal muscle tone, the lower back often will compensate to stay upright by overusing and tightening its muscles. The lower back can eventually signal the problem of this imbalance through pain and muscle spasms. With the aid of Alexander Technique, students recognize these imbalances and find a more expansive posture that encourages evenly-distributed muscle engagement throughout the body.

By learning to move in accordance with the natural principles of human movement, students develop the most efficient ergonomic conditions to heal faster.

When you stop doing the wrong thing, the right thing does itself.

Alexander Technique has changed my life and given me the tools to help put control back in my hands to heal. Four years ago, I was in two car accidents within two months and rear-ended both times. I quickly started trying different therapies like physio, osteopathy, massage and acupuncture in hopes of dealing with the chronic pain and discomfort. Although these treatments helped, they didn’t seem to get to the root of the problem and I wanted a long-term solution.

My physiotherapist recommended trying Alexander Technique and I had a series of lessons with my teacher that helped me become more self-aware of my habits and how they contribute to my discomfort. I felt more relaxed and at ease after the treatments and slowly started to feel a level of normalcy again. The thing that impressed me most was that after being rear-ended recently for the 3rd time, I expected more trauma to my body, but found that I was more resilient than ever before and I can only attribute that to the Alexander Technique training. I’m very grateful for the introduction to this way of healing and highly recommend this technique.
