Membership

Alexander Technique Canada (ATC) offers a variety of memberships.

Members are invited to Town Hall meetings and the Annual General Meeting. They receive the ATC newsletter and correspondence from Council to keep them up to date with the latest Alexander Technique news in Canada as well as workshop opportunities at home and abroad. Members have the opportunity to attend ATC-subsidized workshops and have access to the members-only resource section of this website.

ATC Members can hold dual membership with the other affiliated Societies of ATAS.

All members agree to abide by ATC’s Bylaw and Code of Professional Conduct.

Voting Members

Voting Members are only those who are fully-qualified and practicing Alexander Technique teachers who meet the ATC certification requirements and are listed in the Teacher Directory.

Certification requirements include having trained for at least 1600 hours over a minimum of three years at an ATC-recognized Canadian training school or at an Alexander Technique Affiliated Societies–recognized international training school. For those teachers who did not attend such recognized training schools but would like to become Voting Members, please contact Heather Campbell (president@alexandertechniquecanada.ca).

Only Voting Members, with full voting privileges, can vote at ATC’s Annual General Meeting.

To become a Voting Member please contact Mary Travaglini at admin@alexandertechniquecanada.ca.

Associate Members

Associate membership is for those individuals who are interested in Alexander Technique and wish to be kept informed about developments within the Alexander Technique community, such as former Alexander Technique teachers and current or former students.

Associate members may attend the Annual General Meeting, but cannot vote.

To become an Associate Member please contact Mary Travaglini at admin@alexandertechniquecanada.ca.

International Members

With benefits similar to Associate Members, International Members are most often made up of Alexander Technique teachers who live outside of Canada but are interested in the Canadian Alexander Technique community.

International Members may attend the Annual General Meeting, but cannot vote.

To become an International Member please contact  Mary Travaglini at admin@alexandertechniquecanada.ca.

Non-Resident Members

Members who trained and graduated in Canada and then moved to a different country that has no affiliated Alexander Technique Society may retain their membership with ATC as a Non-Resident Member if they remain active teachers.

Non-Resident members may attend the Annual General Meeting and have the ability to vote at the AGM.

To become a Non-Resident Member please contact Mary Travaglini at admin@alexandertechniquecanada.ca.

Trainee Members

Members who are training to become Alexander Technique teachers become Trainee Members of ATC. Trainee Members pay a one-time membership fee once they have passed their probation period in their teacher-training school.

To become a Trainee Member please contact Mary Travaglini at admin@alexandertechniquecanada.ca.

Honourary Members

Honourary membership is awarded to those who have made a significant life-time contribution to furthering Alexander Technique in Canada. These individuals are nominated by Council and accepted by Voting Members through a majority vote.
